Aberdeen play a draw against Siroki Brijeg in the Europa League Qualifier
Aberdeen has played a 1-1 draw against their Bosnia-Herzegovina opponents, Siroki Brijeg in the Europa League first-leg qualifying match on 13th of July.
The opener was fired after a brilliant forward play, where Ryan Christie managed to score past the visitors’ keeper.
The hosts kept attacking their rivals, with some well-executed efforts in the second half from Graeme Shinnie and Shay Logan, which ended being saved.
In the 69th minute, the outcome changed after Stipo Markovic scored from an 18-yard shot.
Abeerden is facing difficulties in the third qualifying round, similarly to the previous four seasons. The draw is indeed a disappointment for the whole team, but they still have it all what it takes to beat their opponents, with remarkable previous wins in Rijeka and Groningen.
The hosts could increase their lead before the break, but their attempts were squandered by the visitors’ defence. Mackay Steven missed a good chance, as he fired towards the rival’s net, whose keeper managed to deflect the shot in time.
Aberdeen’s problems were evident during the play, as at times their attacks lacked organisation and the defence was vulnerable. However, they were lucky here, as Siroki lacked similar aspects themselves, squandering a couple of first-half efforts wide.
Christie has made a good reputation, with seven goals in 15 games, helping his team gain the win this time.
The second-leg match will take place at the Stadion Pecara on Thursday, 20th of July.
