Arsenal defeat Crystal Palace in the Premier League

Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace by a 2-3 score on 29th of December. It was an important win for the Gunners to maintain high chances in advancing into the top four, especially after the recent wins of Chelsea and Tottenham.

Shkodran Mustafi opened the score in the 25th minute to give Arsenal the lead for the first half. Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend equalised the score shortly before the break. Alexis Sanchez scored after 13 minutes and widened the lead-gap with another goal which came inside the next four minutes. James Tomkins sealed the score for Crystal Palace in the late game.

Arsenal won this encounter, which was mostly due to Sanchez’ performance scoring two goals shortly in between. There are rumours going on that the Chile striker might leave the Gunners after the end of the season. Another uncertainty awaits Mesut Ozil, whose contract also expires in this summer.

Crystal Palace started the season losing the first seven fixtures, but before the encounter against Arsenal, they were unbeaten. The appointment of Roy Hodgson as manager played a big role in their improvement, but also the recovery of their key striker, Wilfried Zaha, who has been out until October. He might move away in January, which will surely damage Palace in many aspects. Even if the striker will leave the team, they still possess the quality and the spirit to go further above relegation, as they have showed in this game.
