Burnley defeats West Brom in the Premier League

Burnley won by a 1-2 score the match against West Brom on March 31st. It became West Brom’s eighth successive defeat, which is a Premier League record in this season. Their boss, Alan Pardew, will need to invest a lot to deal with their relegation problem. They are currently at the bottom, ten points adrift from safety.

Ashley Barnes scored the opener for Burnley in the 22nd minute. Chris Wood doubled the score in the second half, and Salomon Rondon fired one back to bring it to 1-2. Baggies’ resistance wasn’t enough to end their row of successive defeats.

In the second half, Burnley could have gone further, but after Ahmed Hegazi’s challenge on James Tarkowski inside the keeper’s area, the referee disallowed a penalty claim.

In the extra time, Albion was hoping for a late equalizer, but Burnley managed to withstand and produce a mark in the history. It was the first time in 49 years, as the visitors defeated Baggies at their own turf. It has been an impressive season for Burnley overall, managing to have a stable position in the Premier League table. They are now only two points behind the sixth-placed Arsenal, and with more effort could reach the Europa League in this season.

West Brom has shown that they still possess the fighting spirit with Rondon’s late goal, however, they will have to go harder than others to maintain a spot in the Premier League.
