France wins against England in a friendly encounter
France won by a 3-2 score against England in a friendly match in Paris on 13th of June.
England started well with Harry Kane’s opener inside the first 9 minutes from Ryan Bertrand’s cross. However, France kept pressuring back until they equalised the score from Samuel Umtiti’s shot.
Tom Heaton, who is Burnley’s goalkeeper, started in the first half managing to prevent the attempts of Ousmane Dembele and Olivier Giroud, but England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, decided to replace him after Djibril Sidibe doubled the score for France in the closing minutes.
France had it also harsh after Raphael Varane challenged Dele Alli. Varane received a red card which left France for the second half with a 10-man formation which also gave Harry Kane the opportunity to convert the penalty just before the break.
Despite that, France was overpowering England in the second half, through the brilliant performance of such players as Kylian Mpappe, Paul Pogba and Dembele. They managed to secure the win with Dembele’s shot from Mbappe’s pass in the 73rd minute.
Southgate decided to replace Tom Heaton with Jack Butland in the second half. For Heaton, it will be difficult to look back at his misses from Umtiti’s and Sidibe’s attacks, but many would question if he could secure the line in the second half. Butland, however, also showed a good performance saving desperate attempts from Mbappe and Dembele.
England will play next against Malta for qualifying for the next World Cup in Russia on 1st of September. France will play against Netherlands on 31st of August.
