Paris St-Germain sign Neymar for a record fee
The Brazilian forward, Neymar, joined Paris St-Germain for a fee of £200m from Barcelona. Barcelona previously paid £48.6m for him in June 2013. However, after a controversial disclosure, it was revealed that he was signed for £71.5m. Now he broke the world’s transfer record of Paul Pogba, who joined Manchester United from Juventus for a fee of £89m. With a five-year deal, he will earn £40,7m per year, which results in a total fee of £400m for the player.
The world has seen the first cause of this kind in such a major calibre, that might bring some unpleasing consequences in the future. Along the decades, the players have been breaching the world transfer records with £50m for Kaka in 2009, £85m for Gareth Bale in 2013 and £89m for Paul Pogba in 2016, and Neymar has surely reached an unexpected amount. It would surely pump up the upcoming transfer fees.
Neymar has been very motivated towards his new transfer. He was allowed by Barca’s manager to leave and decide for himself on his future.
The Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulate that the clubs inside Europe cannot spend more than they earn by €30m. Though it were unlawful, PSG is supported by Qatar, who helped them reach their target.
Neymar was part of the attacking trio in Barcelona together with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. His friends supported him in his decision, and although the team won’t be the same anymore, their bond will remain.
