Roger Federer Advances to Shanghai Masters Semi-Final

Roger Federer advances to Shanghai Masters semi-final after defeating Japan’s Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals. The 37-year old Swiss won 6-4 7-6 (7-4), recuperating after a 4-1 down in the tie-break. This became Federer’s sixth win against the current #12 over eight meetings.

Federer knew ahead of time he would be at disadvantage against Nishikori, stating ‘As we know with Kei’s game, once he finds his range and his rhythm, he’s very tough to play. Not sure if fast courts suit him better or not, because I feel like he actually plays well on clay, grass, hard. He can do it all.’ So, what we saw on Friday was a much more aggressive and precise display than his previous rounds against Daniil Medvedev and Roberto Bautista Agut. He dominated the game right from the start, winning 65% of the first-serve points, while Nishikori only scored 50% of the second-serve points.

The Swiss will face Croatian Borna Coric, currently ranked world’s #19, in the Shanghai Masters semifinal on Saturday. The 20-year-old Croatian player has already beaten Federer in this year’s Halle final, so what we will see on Saturday will definitely a be a quality encounter. The winner will then face either Novak Djokovic or Aleksandr Zverev in the final on Sunday.

Federer is aiming for his first Masters title since winning Shanghai Masters 2017. Do you think he will manage to win it? If yes, why not try to bet on the best tennis markets at 888Sport? Oh, and don’t forget to grab a £30 free bet while you’re at it.
