Simona Halep and Jelena Ostapenko meet in the French Open’s final
The Latvian Jelena Ostapenko being only 20 years old has a chance of gaining the Grand Slam title. She is ranked 47th, however, she still has many opportunities to gain her first title of any kind. She is the first Grand Slam finalist from Latvia, gaining a top 20 place.
Simona Halep, who is third seed is seen this year as the favourite of this tournament. Her loss in 2014’s final against Maria Sharapova thwarted her in getting the title, but this time odds might be on her side.
This time such major players as Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka are absent from the championship. This has also given a boost to Halep in nearing to the title.
She nearly lost when she played against Elina Svitolina trailing by a set and 5-1. She made her fightback from Karolina Pliskova in the semi-finals.
Ostapenko has won the junior Wimbledon three years ago, and now she is in the top shape having the possibility of gaining the title.
The wins against Caroline Wozniacki, Timea Bacsinszky and Sam Stosur have left a wide air of impression upon the crowd in Paris.
This year’s Grand Slam was the first one since 1977 when the line-up took place without any of the previous champions.
